I know I meant this blog to be only photographs. But I have had this guy on my mind lately, and he never let me take his photo. This amateur drawing will have to do. I miss his Sunday visits and making him his bagel and oatmeal raisin cookie and his nightly americano and glass of water with extra ice. God I hope no one ever forgets his drink.

Goodbye Somerville
There were many pictures I meant to take. So many days going through my life I'd see a landscape I wanted to photograph. In my mind it would grow and grow and not having taken it would be one of those things that made me feel bad in the middle of the night. SO before leaving Somerville I made sure to go out and take some of those photos. Of course they didn't come out like in my head, but they are still important to me. I have some others I haven't scanned yet I will try to post too.

Night Hawks
These helicopters seemed a little romantic at first, shining that big spotlight on the possible fugitives below, but now when they wake me up at night and I don't even hear a single gun shot, I feel a little cheated. They do remind me, though, of as a kid in summertime Nashville when we'd play that hideously named tag game, German Spotlight. God, I loved that game, running through people's yards in the dark and trying not to be found.

Lloyd on his Crawfish Boat, Louisiana
For spring break 2004, Sam and I went on a road trip to the South. Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana. All along the Gulf Coast and where ever we really felt like stopping. Somewhere between Lafayette and Breaux Bridge, we stopped at a post office to mail a post card. In the parking lot was a large black truck with two men in it. Noticing the Maine plates, they just had to ask Sam what we were up to. After having a friendly chat with them, he came back to the car where I was waiting, and said, We're going to see their crawfish farm! We drove down some back roads, and on some windy roads through big heavy trees, then down a really long driveway to a white trailer and some sheds in front of a big expanse of muddy, shallow water. I can't say I wasn't nervous at some point during that drive. But Lloyd and his assistant, who's name escapes me, showed us the crawfish catching process, served us some cold Barq's, and let me take pictures. This is my favorite.
