Lloyd on his Crawfish Boat, Louisiana

For spring break 2004, Sam and I went on a road trip to the South. Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana. All along the Gulf Coast and where ever we really felt like stopping. Somewhere between Lafayette and Breaux Bridge, we stopped at a post office to mail a post card. In the parking lot was a large black truck with two men in it. Noticing the Maine plates, they just had to ask Sam what we were up to. After having a friendly chat with them, he came back to the car where I was waiting, and said, We're going to see their crawfish farm!

We drove down some back roads, and on some windy roads through big heavy trees, then down a really long driveway to a white trailer and some sheds in front of a big expanse of muddy, shallow water. I can't say I wasn't nervous at some point during that drive. But Lloyd and his assistant, who's name escapes me, showed us the crawfish catching process, served us some cold Barq's, and let me take pictures. This is my favorite.
